Just About Fire Time

November is here and with it the nights are really getting cooler.
A few weeks ago Joe pulled the Earth Stove out of the fireplace
and cleaned the chimney.I could not believe how much had built up in the chimney.
This is the worst pile we have ever cleaned out of there.
I know when it was really super cold last winter,
we had to burn some wood that was not seasoned well
and our seasoned was too wet to mix in.
As usual in our house, this task did not go without supervision!!
It won't be long and we will have a fire going.

  1. Ah, that's a nice thought...fires in the fireplace.

It's finally getting cooler here too.

Nice time of year to snuggle up with a good book!

  2. Love the picture of the cat!! We used to have a calico years ago.
Here is how we make our Chicken and Rice Soup..

I use chicken breast with the skin on most of the time...although once in a while I put a whole chicken in. Add, salt, pepper, a lot of carrots and celery, garlic, (I cannot use onion), basil and bay leaves. Cook for around 1-2 hours simmering...removed the chicken and add brown rice cooking for another hour at which time I had 20 oz of frozen peas and simmer awhile, then add the chicken after cutting it in chunks. I think that is about it.
We freeze a couple bowls full for a later "emergency" when we both feel to sick to cook...It does not taste as good to us once it is frozen, but we do it out of necessity.

    Have a good day!

  3. We had a three story chimney fire once, and there isn't anything as frightening! Glad you got yours cleaned out.
