Antique Pink Churn Dash Quilt Finished!!

The Pink Churn Dash is finally finished. I purchased this
top at a sale well over 20 years ago and stuffed it away.
I had to do some repairs and finishing on it but it
was worth it.  It is a beautiful piece of work that
some lady put a lot of love and time into.

I decided I was going to try and do the binding by machine.
I sewed the binding to the back and brought it around
to the front and secured it down with a decorative
stitch.  It came out ok... I think it will take a lot
of practice to be able to machine finish a binding to suit me.
I just didn't have the courage to tackle it by hand
after doing the Crazy Quilt binding by hand the first
of the month. My hands were sore for days.

I got all the quilts washed (warshed) and put away that I took to
the 4th of July Quilt Show up in Rich Hill.  I don't think I
will show another one again this year unless it is my red white and
blue crazy quilt. I like it, it is different than most quilts.

My Nine Patch will go back on the foot of the bed when the
weather gets cooler.

When visiting at the show a few of us ladies were talking about washing
our quilts, how to and what not to do. Well then we got off on the
topic about how most of us say "warshed" when the proper way is
washed.  I know I tell the grand kids to go warsh their hands and get
a funny look once in a while. I guess it's all in what you grew up hearing
and I believe that in Southern Missouri we heard warshed more in my
day. I won't even get started on windows....

Patriotic Crazy Quilt and the 4th Quilt Show

This is the first crazy quilt I have ever attempted to make. I just pretty much
grabbed pieces and sewed them together...some in more of a Log
Cabin type block, others hog podge. In the middle there
are 4 paper pieced blocks surrounded by the 5 heart blocks.
It was a fun quilt to make.  This was the first time it
went to a quilt show.

Here is my favorite and first nine patch making a showing and probably
the last time I will show it.  I like using it.  It was on the bed most of  this
last winter.

The Wedding Ring Quilt is mine but was purchased at an antique shop, wish they would
have labeled it!!  The one in the middle next to it was the one my grammie has started
and hand pieced. I finished it and had it quilted in 2012.
This Dresden Plate quilt is also from the antique store and I have no idea who put all
that hard work into it or saved up all those feed sacks.  The prairie point binding is really
unusual and they did a great job hand quilting it. Still I wish I knew who and when it
was made, but and sure glad I am the owner. I will enjoy and appreciate it!!

This is the first of two raffle quilts made by a couple ladies at the Stitch In Time
Quilt Guild.  I hope it is in a home that appreciates it as a lot of hard work
went into this lovely quilt.

This is the second raffle quilt made by many of the members of the guild. We each made
a few tossed 4 patches and then turned them in to the shop owner who them stipple quilted each
and everyone of them. They then went to the president of the guild and she and another
lady put them together by machine and then by hand with those skinny black strips.
This is the one I wish they would have drawn my ticket for!!!
Happy thing is the shop is closing and the owner is going to retire and she did
all that hard work stipple quilting those block and guess what???
They drew her name and she won the quilt!!! What a great way to end your
last month in business after 19 year....winning the raffle quilt you put a lot of
hours work into.!!!!  Glad she won it if I didn't  LOL!!!

Finished Round Robin Quilts of Spring 2012

I knew when I saw this material that it would be the perfect border to
finish  the last Round Robin Exchange quilt I had to
work on in quick order this week.  I love it, the brights
with the black background would just pull this
spool themed quilt together.
I think it really did make a good border for this quilt. It
is the last one of this exchange ...whew...I always
wait till the last minute.  I wouldn't mind being the owner
of this one at all.
This lady wanted hers to be a fall theme and I think it
turned out just beautiful.
I think us girls did an outstanding job this time
and got really creative with these borders.
The quilts look like they all stayed pretty
squared up, which is a task when
you have so many different people
sewing on each quilt.
This black and red one belongs to the quilt shop owner and
we all know she is a Kansas City Chief fan ....so I know
there will be KC Chief backing on this quilt for her
to be cuddled up under during this winters games!!!

The next two below are pillow tops the lady wanted
for her grand daughter. She was a beginner and
had never done an exchange quilting before
and wanted to keep it simple.
I really like the orange one and it is bigger than the pink one.
I am sure her grand daughter will love them.
For some reason my camera did not do well picking
up the colors on this one. It was really bright and
beautiful.
Now this one below is the one I really love as IT IS MINE!!!
I am going to add one more border that pulls together the
flowers from my middle block. I don't think I have enough
of that original Eleanor Burns fabric but will find
something close to it. It is much brighter than the camera
shows it...must have been my flash with the evening sun
coming in the windows washed the colors out a little.

There are a few more that didn't make it in this evening but hope to
get pictures of them soon.  I love these Round Robin Exchange Quilts,
but am sure glad when we get the project finished. Then I say I
won't do another one as it is always hanging over my head to
get to it and my health is not always cooperative....but
I love owning one so I usually cave in and do them.
But, not another one for a while.!!

Antique Quilt Finished

Finally, it is finished!! My grandmother on my
Mom's side started this quilt way back in the
late 60's. It was all hand pieced and has a lot
of feed sack material in it.
My cousin ended up with it after buying my
aunt's house and graciously gave me the unfinished
quilt top. I finished the pieces by machine and patched here
and there and got it all ready and sent to the quilter.
I put lime green marble on it for backing and binding,
which may not go with the time frame....but I like it.
I am not really sure what the quilt block is called.
I know in one of Eleanor Burns' books, Underground
Railroad they refer to it as the Crossroads Block.

I have always had a fascination with the feed sack
material and I am so glad my Grammie put some of
it in these blocks.
I also recognize the fabric that is white with the red polka dot
in it from fabric she made a shirt out of in the late
60's. She wore that shirt a lot and I liked it, she would
most generally have a hanky stuffed in her front breast
pocket and a pack of Camel cigarettes. LOL...I don't
even think they had filters back then. Or were they
Pall Malls? Heck I can't remember...Pa Pa smoked one
kind she smoked the other.
Now back to my quilt talking...
The quilter finished it with an older pattern and did
a great job and it is bound and ready to use.
Matter of fact, I cuddled up in my glider with
it last evening. We're having a little cooler
evenings here in Southern Missouri this week.
I thought...mmm.... kinda like having my grandmother's
arms around me, by having this hand stitching
of hers surrounding me.
I am just so thankful my cousin gave it to me
and I actually stuck in there and got it finished.
I think having my Mother get so gravely ill this
winter lit a fire under me so I could see that it
was done and Mom could enjoy looking at what
her Mother had pieced so many years ago.

A Quilt for a Friend

In the fall of 2005 a good friend of mine, from
way back in Jr High, lost her husband.
She did not live close by and I wanted to do
something to brighten her world.....and this is it.
I started out with the middle block. I traced
and colored with crayons and ironed it in between
a brown paper bag to set the color.
I had an older lady (88 yrs old) that had done a little quilting
for me before, do the quilting on this and
she went right over the top of my applique!!
Oh well, it turned out OK. No biggy and
last summer the older quilting lady passed
and I am glad I have some of her work she
did on that ancient old machine she used.
I guess you could say it is just a huge wonky
log cabin quilt. It was a fun quilt to make and pretty fast
for me as I had only been doing this for a
little over 2 years.
Last summer my friend had gone to spend some time with
her daughter and family in Arkansas and they
had a house fire that destroyed most all they owned.
When I got the call about the fire the first thing her
daughter told me after saying they were all OK was
that her mother had not brought the quilt with her!!
I was relieved to hear that but more relieved to know
they all got out of the house OK that night.

Binding Done and Wavy!!!

Last night I finally got the binding on this quilt
stitched down on the back.
I decided to try machine sewing it down
and it didn't go too bad.
Hope the quilt inspector never comes by here!
It is washed and ready to snuggle. See those wavy edges?

Guild Charity Quilt

This is a quilt that the guild I belong to made
for an auction. We each were given a baggy full of
the pieces for blocks. Mine were those tall
skinny hearts in the middle top.
It was the first time I had ever made yo yo's! This quilt was fun and money raised went for a good
cause. I would have liked to have been the
winning bidder on this quilt.....it would
have looked great hanging on my bedroom wall!!

Quilted Table Runner

Here is my fall table runner.
This is the first table runner I have ever made and
I also quilted it myself!
It really was easier than I thought it would be. I believe some refer to this as a type of Seminole Piecing. I want to make a runner for each season using this pattern, but I have more ideas than I have energy most of the time. I was fortunate to be able to rock my favorite youngest granddaughter to sleep tonight, she is 3 and usually too busy to be rocked. She wanted me to read to her and while being read to, sleep got the best of her. I know there are going to be fewer times like that with my grand kids. They are all growing up so fast. Oh, and by the way...the older ones know that she is my favorite youngest because she is my only youngest...she just hasn't caught on to that yet, and I hope she doesn't for a while. I still tell my oldest granddaughter (she's 12) that she is my favorite oldest gdaughter and she just grins and tells me she knows she really is my favorite!!!!...LOL

Flower Garden Quilt

Today is a beautiful fall day in Missouri. It is cool and the leaves are turning.
I think I have some energy today to do a few things I want.
Hope to get in some sewing and a trip to Wal Mart.
This flower garden quilt was a birthday gift from a few years back. It is all hand pieced and
quilted. I can't begin to imagine all the hours the lady put in making this. She did
a wonderful job. My husband and the grand kids surprised me with it.I didn't notice the light from the ceiling fan until I posted!! In the old jar
is a bunch of antique buttons. My youngest grand daughter loves to
dump them out on the bed and count and play games with them.
I remember playing with buttons when I was a child, I think
that is probably why I collect buttons. I have
a few tins full of buttons picked up here and there
through the years.

Autumn Brown Bag Quilt

Let me tell you what a brown bag quilt is. A group of quilters....anywhere from 6 to 10 is good ...make a 12 1/2 block and put it in a brown grocery bag. If you have left over fabric you want to send along you stick it in the bag, if not , that's ok.
We picked every other Wednesday and traded bags and kept trading till each person had worked on each quilt top. I put fall colored fabric in with my block and ended up with a beautiful quilt. Brown bags are always fun. I believe some people call these Round Robin Quilts.
Autumn Brown Bag Quilt made in Fall of 2009 measures about 52" by 52". Thanks to everyone that worked on it, the quilt won a 3rd place ribbon at a small local quilt show!!! It is now time for me to drag it out of the closet.

Blue Ribbon

I was really pleased that the Tulip Quilt won a blue ribbon at a local quilt show. If you want to see a full picture of it go back to my very first post. Wooo Hooo.....Paper piecing takes time and patience but I enjoy doing it. It is one way to get those crisp points right.

First Step in Blog World.....

Well here I am finally starting my own blog after a few years of following many others. I hope to share about my quilting and coping with CFS and just day to day life in pictures and words. Join me if you will ...there will be up days and down days. Don't most people have up days and down days???? I know us folks with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome sure do!!
My first picture is Tulips a wall hanging quilt. It was my first attempt at paper piecing. I now love to paper piece. It is kinda like...paint by numbers we did when we were kids...don't you think??
